The 21st edition of the Children’s Writer’s and Illustrator’s Market (CWIM), edited by indefatigable Alice Pope, is out and it is a must-get for any author or artist at all interested in publishing for children. It’s packed—and I mean packed, stuffed, bursting, overflowing, absolutely and utterly FULL—with helpful articles, key market info, and all-purpose wisdom and encouragement.
Two articles from HTK clients stand out.
In “Six Reasons to Quit Writing (And One Reason Why You Shouldn’t)”, under #4 (”You don’t have time to write”), Donna Gephart notes:
There will never be a perfect time to write. Do it anyway. Make dates with yourself. Turn off the TV. Want it more than you want other things and you will find the time.
Cynthia Leitich Smith, an exemplar of how to use the web for both marketing and increasing-the-greater-good purposes, shares her decade of valuable experience in “Making Your Web Site Educator-Friendly.” Be sure to check out the sidebar on page 121, “Q&A With a Web Designer.” Who is that masked designer? You don’t really have to ask, do you? The page culls some of my best tips from interviews in February and September of 2006.

I really like your site. I just stumbled it. Fun, playful, and well written. I also like what you did with Thesis. I use it too, but didn’t manage to squeeze out near the personality. Anyway, great job. I just subscribed.
Thanks, Writer Dad. : )
